We are happy to announce that we will be exhibiting our mmbTools at IBC 2010 which will takes place in Amsterdam from September 10 to 14. Our tools will be shown as part of the European Broadcasting Union exhibit in Hall 10, booth 10.D21. The theme for this exhibit will be "Hybrid Radio". Visit us there to see great demonstrations of DAB/DMB, FM-RDS, DRM, Internet Radio, Android applications, RadioDNS, and so on

Welcome to CRC mmbTools

This website is an effort provided by the Communications Research Centre Canada to support, foster and promote the development of new applications and tools in the field of MOBILE MULTIMEDIA BROADCASTING (MMB). It does so by providing access to relevant MMB system building blocks that are integrated or developed by CRC. This effort also aims at  spearheading a dynamic developer community around Open Source Software projects that shall stimulate the creation of new and innovative MMB applications.

This website offers two types of tools: free downloadable software and free to use Web Appliances (WAPP). Please note that most of the initial applications are based on the DAB/DMB and FM/RDS technologies. Projects dealing with other MMB technologies such as DVB-H and ATSC Mobile DTV will eventually be hosted here as well.

DabAudio WAPP was our first web appliance and also the first mmbTool that we made available here. It provides the combined functionality of a Musicam encoder and a DAB multiplexer. Based on an audio file that you provide, DabAudio WAPP will transcode it, multiplex it and produce a DAB compliant ETI file that you can download and inject in the modulator of your choice for different purposes: receiver testing, field trials, application testing, and so on.  We recently added the Dab+ Audio WAPP which encodes audio in the new DAB+ format.
