Samsung S and FM TwoO - not working as advertised 1 Year ago
Ok, as I read all the posts, it is not clear what is compatible and what is not. I have a Samsung Galaxy S, Sprint 4G. Specifically:
Model SPH-D700
Firmware: 2.3.6
Baseband version: Unknown (well it was known as s700.0.5S.EL30 until I did something like flash in KC1 or something else that didn't work)
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
Build: Gingerbread.FC09
Hardware: unknown (well, before it was known as D700.0.5)
The steps to root this phone using OneClick did not work. OneClick gets to step 7 and then stops. The phone never reboots. When I try to connect with Kies, it never connects. A post on a Samsung web site says that Kies is incompatible with the SPH-D700. Seems outlandish of Samsung to have this. I try to execute su and error out with 'not found'. either I need better instructions on what to do, or this is not going to work. Comments? Help!

More information... the OneClick stops at step 7 with this information:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl9 /system > /data/local/tmp/output 2>&1

export TEMPRANDOM=70802

export PS1=END:$TEMPRANDOM;cat /data/local/tmp/output

mount: Operation not permitted

END:70802

Nope. No joy. The video shows the same old SuperOncClick steps shown on the CRC page. My problem must be with the Samsung version SPH-D700 which decodes as a Sprint version. I suspect that this software has restrictions or reacts differently. If you intented that I follow a different procedure, please post the link to that procedure, not simply the video. They are not very helpful as there are no links to follow from the video.

Quick google pulled up this.

http://androidadvices.com/root-samsung-galaxy-epic-4g-d700-gingerbread-23x-firmware/

Some comments say about their phone locking up, this is actually a common thing with rooting.

To solve this, go into the boot options (which it should talk you through in the rooting process) and factory reset the phone.

Ok I got to SU (Super User, which I think means I have rooted the phone) The missing piece of information is that the VID for the phone was not in ADB dir. Check out Mario's Tiny lab, http://blog.fh-kaernten.at/wehr/?p=1182. Once I did that, vola I get access to SU. Now the next problem... no devfmradio listed... does that mean no radio chip in this phones (Sprint SPH-D700)?

I haven't got the faintest idea. You'll have to ask google.

Hello Trekrider2001,

I am not sure if there is at all FM radio functionality on your phone. Some users reported that there is none. In which case FM TwoO would never work, obviously.

A way to verify this would be to see if you have (or had) the Samsung default radio app?

Roy
