FM TwoO on BlackBerry Curve
CRC demonstrates the first hybrid radio app running on BlackBerry Curve models 9360 and 9380 at NAB 2012 in Las Vegas. In January 2012, RIM unleashed FM functionality on these models with OS 7.1. FM TwoO seamlessly enhances FM radio with program-related multimedia content delivered via Internet. FM TwoO implements the RadioDNS and RadioVIS open standards. Potential future applications include content tagging, FM/IP switching, music purchasing, public alerting and so on. At CRC, we were very excited to discover that RIM uniquely offers an application programming interface (API) to the FM functionality on the Curve. RIM's open approach allows any 3rd party to come up with innovative FM and hybrid radio apps. RIM clearly leads on that front while other platforms, such as Android, do not allow 3rd party FM apps. By doing so, RIM fosters the convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication services. This should benefit both industries as well as consumers who will eventually access richer and more attractive multimedia services. Poster at NAB 2012 Booth
